Robin Randall of Jurien Bay has been posthumously awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his dedication to emergency response organisations and community service.
After retiring as Manager of the Badgingarra Research Station, Robin joined Jurien Bay Marine Rescue in 1993. Over 30 years Robin held every role, from commander to secretary, radio operator to trainer. Recognised with life membership in 2011, his contributions were instrumental in the organisation's success.
When DFES (Department of Fire and Emergency Services) mandated Skipper's Tickets for recreational fishers, Robin earned a Certificate IV qualification, becoming the region's only certified trainer. He conducted courses in Jurien and Broome, donating proceeds to Marine Rescue. He also facilitated accredited radio operator training, further strengthening local emergency response capabilities.
Robin's service was widely recognised. In 2011, he was named Shire of Dandaragan's Citizen of the Year, and in 2021 he received the National Medal for his contributions to DFES and Marine Rescue.
The Randall Family is honoured to accept the OAM on Robin's behalf, celebrating his lasting impact on Jurien Bay and Badgingarra. The award ceremony will take place in May 2025 in Perth.
